Jared Wiley 2024 NFL Draft: Combine Results, Scouting Report For Kansas City Chiefs TE
The 2024 NFL Draft is getting close, making it an excellent time to highlight some of the class' best players with scouting reports. Each report will include strengths, weaknesses and background information.

STRENGTHS
- Excellent length with the versatility to line up attached and detached from the formation; often deployed as move tight end
- Has the ability to separate at the top of route stem and catch the ball on the move; ran away from coverage
- Receptions with wide catch radius showed the body control and hands to make tough catches away from his frame, which he did consistently
- Seamless transition from receiver to runner
- Has stride length and functional play speed to attack the vertical seam and generate speed as he lengthens his stride
- Showed some strong run-after-catch bursts and juice when he had the opportunity based on the route and throw
- Featured as a run blocker from different locations within the formation, including insert blocker to the second level
- From attached TE alignment, he was featured as an angle-seal blocker on the front side of zone and gap scheme runs.
- At his best as run blocker when he worked off angles and leverage and climbed to the second level to block linebackers
WEAKNESSES
- More straight-line linear in his route running; did not get in and out of breaks with fluidity and clean footwork
- Not featured as a run blocker, and needs to play with more physicality and competitive toughness
- At this point, lacks the play strength needed to be an effective attached blocker in the run game, especially vs. defensive ends
NFL TRANSITION
Wiley is a tall, long tight end with plus speed, stride length, fluid movement and high-level hand-eye coordination. There is untapped potential as a receiver as you project and transition him to the next level.
Wiley was not deployed much as an intermediate and vertical receiver in the TCU offense, but he has the physical and athletic traits to be not only a seam stretcher but a viable intermediate receiver who can run multiple routes. Wiley can line up in multiple locations within the formation, both attached and detached. He also can be deployed as a motion receiver.
Wiley consistently showed outstanding hands with a wide catching radius to make tough catches away from his frame. That made him tough to cover at more than 6-foot-6.
Wiley is an intriguing tight end prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft class due to his size, length, receiving traits and his ability and experience to line up in multiple locations within the formation, including boundary X.
My sense is Wiley would begin his NFL career as a TE2 or TE3 until he acclimated to the league, but there is a three-level receiving dimension to work with. With coaching, natural growth and development, he could become a strong TE2 and depending on the team and scheme a TE1.
OTHER NOTES
Wiley was a two-year starter at TCU, finishing his five-year college career with an outstanding 2023 season: 47 receptions for 520 yards (11.1-yard average) and eight TDs. Wiley’s 47 receptions were the fifth-most among all Power 5 tight ends and he was voted First-Team All-Big 12.
Wiley was a high school quarterback in Texas who played his first three college seasons at the University of Texas before playing his final two seasons at TCU.
