2023 Fantasy Football Week 12 Projections: CeeDee Lamb New WR1
Using machine learning, I’ve built a model that projects player usage and fantasy performance week to week. Below, you can find the model’s 2023 Week 12 projections. Each player is listed with relevant projected stats, as well as their projected points in half-PPR leagues and PPR leagues and their projected rank.
Write-ups for interesting and notable players will be found under each position.
Disclaimer: I wouldn’t recommend using these projections for the betting markets. The model regresses outlier predictions and performances back to an average. Though this model can aid in betting decision-making, it wasn’t modeled with that in mind.

Justin Fields (QB7)
In his return from injured reserve, Justin Fields posted his third-highest fantasy total of the 2023 season, an impressive feat considering the usual struggles quarterbacks face in their first game back. Fields totaled 21.2 fantasy points against the Detroit Lions, a team that had been allowing 20 points per game to the quarterback position.
Fields is set to face the Minnesota Vikings in the coming week, a team that has struggled defensively over the past two seasons. Notably, Minnesota is allowing the eighth-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers. This sets the stage for Fields and DJ Moore to form an elite stack heading into Week 12, presenting a favorable fantasy outlook for both players.
Sam Howell (QB7)
The struggles of the Washington Commanders' defense were evident in Week 11 when the unit allowed New York Giants rookie QB Tommy DeVito to throw for three touchdowns. This defensive weakness has put pressure on Sam Howell all season long to continue passing — the Commanders lead the league in average pass attempts per game.
Despite Howell's per-game QB9 ranking for the season, it's not due to exceptional performance; he currently ranks 27th among quarterbacks in EPA per dropback. While he remains a startable option, he's unlikely to be a flashy one.
Joshua Dobbs (QB10)
Since joining the Vikings, Joshua Dobbs has been the per-game QB5. Notably, his success primarily stems from his ground game, where he ranks second in rushing attempts and yards among quarterbacks in that time frame.
T.J. Hockenson has emerged as Dobbs' reliable target, leading tight ends in targets, receptions and receiving yards since Dobbs assumed the quarterback role. Hockenson's impact is evident: He has generated the ninth-most EPA on targets, elevating Dobbs to an above-average-caliber quarterback.
With Jefferson's return imminent, Dobbs' ceiling is poised to reach even greater heights, making him a buy for contenders heading into the fantasy football playoffs.

CeeDee Lamb (WR1)
Since Week 6, CeeDee Lamb has asserted himself as the WR1 overall, outscoring the next-highest wideout, Tyreek Hill, by an impressive four points. Lamb has solidified his status as one of fantasy's top-five receivers, demonstrating remarkable consistency and performance throughout the season, making him a reliable top-two wide receiver week in and week out.
Remarkably, Lamb has achieved these feats despite falling outside the top 12 in target share, highlighting his efficiency, a knack for scoring touchdowns and a favorable situation in one of the best offenses in the NFL.
Notably, Lamb only trails Brandon Aiyuk among starting wide receivers in EPA per target, showcasing exceptional efficiency. This impressive EPA is largely credited to quarterback Dak Prescott, who is making a compelling case for the 2023 MVP and is leading quarterbacks in EPA per dropback since Week 6.
DJ Moore (WR2)
With Fields as his starting quarterback, DJ Moore has been delivering an average of 18.1 HPPR points per game. Through 11 weeks, the only three wide receivers with more HPPR points per game are Hill (21.5), Keenan Allen (19.1) and Jefferson (18.3). While Moore may not be a locked-and-loaded starter in the same vein as this elite group, it's challenging to justify anything other than his status as a low-end WR1.
With Moore facing the Vikings, who are allowing the eighth-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers, he is one of the safest options at the position.
Courtland Sutton (WR12)
During the Denver Broncos' impressive four-game win streak, Courtland Sutton has quietly positioned himself as a sneaky top-20 wide receiver option in fantasy football, consistently finding the end zone with a touchdown in each game. While these touchdowns may not be guaranteed every week, Sutton's eight touchdowns on the season rank second among all players.
With the Broncos now holding a 5-5 record and still in contention for a playoff spot, the team's dynamics are evolving. Although Russell Wilson hasn't fully resembled his former self, he has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in football this season. If fantasy managers can acquire Sutton at a reasonable price, his potential upside for the remainder of the season becomes increasingly appealing.

Rachaad White (RB8)
Rachaad White's fantasy appeal doesn't hinge on his rushing ability: He has struggled in that department this season with 3.3 yards per carry, ranking 39th out of 42 qualified running backs. His value stems from his significant volume and consistent availability, making him a reliable RB2 option with touchdown potential. Impressively, White leads all running backs with 272 routes, ranking third in total receptions and second in receiving yards.
Notably, his usage has seen an uptick since the Buccaneers' bye week, propelling White to the RB8 in points per game during this period. With his exceptional receiving skills, White becomes a challenging player to bench, especially considering the favorable matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, who allow the sixth-most fantasy points to running backs.
Zach Charbonnet (RB17)
While there is some intrigue regarding starting Zach Charbonnet due to his anticipated usage in Week 12 with Kenneth Walker expected to be sidelined, the Seattle Seahawks' matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is a challenging one.
Running backs facing the 49ers are averaging the eighth-fewest points per game, making it a less favorable situation. Additionally, Geno Smith's recent performances suggest the passing game might not open up much success for Charbonnet on the ground.
Despite the potential excitement for his future given his draft capital and Walker's injury, a short week against San Francisco may not be the optimal time for Charbonnet to shine.
A.J. Dillon (RB18)
In past seasons, A.J. Dillon was considered an elite handcuff given his success in games that Aaron Jones missed. Jones is expected to miss Week 12 with an MCL sprain, but Dillon is nothing more than a low-upside RB2. In the three games Jones has missed this season, Dillon has only proven to be a viable starter in one of them.
The lack of efficiency from the Green Bay Packers' offense further diminishes Dillon's fantasy appeal, making him a player to avoid starting if other options are available.

T.J. Hockenson (TE1)
In Week 12, T.J. Hockenson has claimed the top spot at tight end, surpassing even the elite Travis Kelce. Under the guidance of Dobbs, Hockenson commands an impressive 35 percent of the Vikings' targets, translating to an impressive 14 fantasy points per game.
This production ranks him only behind George Kittle among tight ends. Hockenson emerges as the tight-end cheat code for Week 12, and the impact of Jefferson's return on Hockenson's elite ceiling is yet to be determined.
Trey McBride (TE5)
With Zach Ertz sidelined and Kyler Murray as his quarterback, Trey McBride has started to enter elite-tight-end territory. In his first game with Murray, McBride totaled 131 yards on eight receptions. Last week, he was Murray’s second favorite target behind Greg Dortch (who only had 80 percent route participation vs. McBride’s 97 percent).
With tight end being as thin as it is, McBride rounds out the top five given his expected target share and performance throughout the season.
