Scouting Report: Chris Rumph II, EDGE, Duke
Build - Does he have prototype size? What is body type? What is growth potential?
Tall, Long, and Skinny. Rumph has fast hands attached to his long arms which he uses well. Frame looks like it can add weight, but at his current size he needs to add a considerable amount if he wants to play at the line
Mental - Is he instinctual? Does he play with urgency?
Pass rush and hand fighting moves look almost reflexive with how quick he is able to use them on linemen to shed and avoid blockers. once past the blocker he will move directly to the ball. Doesn't seem to get confused or tricked on too many plays
Athleticism - Does he have the athletic traits you want?
One of the better athletes in this class. Shows incredibly impressive change of direction when moving past blockers and tracking down the ball carrier. Has such explosive movement that linemen often fell forward or completely missed on blocks. Very fast hands. Strength is the only concern as he doesn't have the strength to compete with engaged blocks or push back incoming blockers, relies instead on trying to get around them
Technical - Does he have a refined skill set? Is he a projection or is his game developed enough to contribute early?
Very quick hands. One of the best swim moves I've seen. Can swipe hands, swim, rip, disengage all at a very high level. Does not use a bull rush or take on blocks strongly. If he adds enough muscle to do so will be an elite player
Summary - What role does he play? What is his initial projection?
Rumph is a 6'4 235 lb Edge player with top end speed, explosiveness and athleticism. Explosive out of the stance and uses quick hands when initiating contact with the blocker. Uses an array of pass rush moves (One of the best swim moves I've seen. Can swipe hands, swim, rip to disengage). Projects as a 3-4 OLB similar to Josh Uche from 2020
