Chris Long Still Not Ruling out NFL Comeback
Chris Long hasn't suited up for an NFL franchise in more than three years, but he has not ruled out making a comeback. The 11-year NFL veteran and former second overall pick who last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, told The 33rd Team that if the right situation came along later this season, he would consider coming out of retirement.
"If I was just a fan and somebody was like, 'Hey, you get to play in the NFL,' I'd be like, 'Yeah, why not?'" Long said. "I've already done it, and if somebody's desperate enough to give me a call in November, I think I've got a few good disruptions in me still."
Long's last NFL snaps came in the Eagles' divisional-round playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints on Jan. 13, 2019. Following the season, in which he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner, Long retired.
Cheers. Been a hell of a journey. Eleven years and I can honestly say I put my soul into every minute of it. Highs and lows. I’ve seen them both and I appreciate the perspective. Gratitude and love to those who lifted me up. pic.twitter.com/Ap8zi73Ifl

He left the NFL as a two-time Super Bowl champion, with 170 career games, 70 sacks, and 15 forced fumbles to his credit.
He did not rule out making a comeback when discussing his retirement in October 2019. Three years later, now at the age of 37, his opinion has not changed, although, as Long made sure to say, he has been content in his retirement, where he has taken on other ventures.
"I'm also pretty happy as a podcaster," Long said, laughing. "Sunday's never the problem (when playing in games); it's Monday and then the next Sunday."
Since retiring, Long has hosted the Green Light Podcast, hosting guests for "an expert look at all things Pro Football & a novice look at everything else." He is also a trustee of The Chris Long Foundation, with a mission of providing clean drinking water and education to areas lacking in either.
