Charles Davis is a top football analyst and former college defensive back. In addition to his work on NFL Network and as one of the top color commentators for CBS, he also lends his analyses to the Madden NFL video game series published by EA Sports.
Davis joined the sports media world after playing safety for the Tennessee Volunteers, where he earned numerous honors, including being chosen to the Academic All-SEC squad. Davis excelled in big moments, including a six-tackle, one-interception performance against Miami in the 1986 Sugar Bowl.
Following his college career, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys but did not make the team and headed back to school for his Master’s degree before beginning media work at his alma mater.
Over the years, Davis has witnessed some of the biggest moments in football. He called Appalachian State’s 2007 stunning win over Michigan. Throughout his broadcasting career, he has been teamed with a who’s who of NFL luminaries, including Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw, among many others.
Davis grew up in New York with a father who coached multiple sports, which led to Charles becoming a multisport star (football, basketball and baseball). Football was his best sport, and he earned all-state honors as a triple-threat quarterback, defensive back and kicker.
Before his entry into media, Davis spent one season as an assistant coach at the University of the Pacific, worked for the Southeastern Conference and was the director of the United States Olympic Training Center. He spent three years as an assistant athletic director at Stanford University, then worked at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
Davis lives in Florida with his wife. They have two children.
