Clay Webb 2025 NFL Draft: Scouting Report For Jacksonville State Gamecocks IOL
Height: 6032 (verified)
Weight: 312lbs (verified)
Year: Sixth-Year Senior
Pro Comparison: Joe Looney
Scouting Overview
Jacksonville State Jaguars offensive lineman Clay Webb projects as a developmental starter at the NFL level. Webb, who was once a prized recruit with Georgia, has collected the playing time he needed after transferring to Jacksonville State and projects as a potential fit at center in the NFL.
Webb has excellent space ability and short-area mobility — offering him the chance to eventually be an impact player as an uncovered player along the front who can work on the second level or play in space. That said, he’s taken no snaps at center in his college career and may require patience to cater to an additional developmental leap amid a potential position change, although he did play center in high school.
2025 NFL Combine Results
Position | Name | School | 40-Yard Dash | 10-Yard Split | Broad Jump | Vertical Jump | 3-Cone Drill | 20-Yard Shuttle | Bench Press |
OL | Clay Webb | Jacksonville State | 5.11 | 1.72 | 107 | 31 | 4.9 | 29 |
Positives
- Very good short-area twitch and agility to shine out of the blocks
- Plays with good second-level range to cut off and leverage more dynamic athletes in space
- Offers good leg drive to stay sticky on blocks once he’s established a hand fit
Negatives
- Lacks the ideal reach and wingspan to win first contact and dictate reps once he’s locked horns
- Anchor is not a great asset vs. power
- Can lose leverage and pad level deeper into reps
Background
Webb is from Oxford, AL, and played high school football for Oxford HS. There, he was a 5-star recruit (247 Sports) who was highly coveted for his play on the interior. In addition to football, Webb was a wrestler who finished his career with a 45-1 record with 38 pins. Webb participated in Nike’s The Opening in 2018 and eventually committed to Georgia as a member of their 2019 recruiting class.
Webb played sparingly in two seasons at Georgia, logging 38 offensive snaps between 2019 and 2020. While at Georgia, Webb was named in a hazing lawsuit that featured some ugly allegations against him and several of his teammates going back to Oxford HS. The suit has still not been settled.
Webb entered the transfer portal in early 2021 without any formal plans for continuing a college career and did not play football that season. He would go on to enroll at Jacksonville State ahead of the 2022 season and served as a three-year starter.
Upon completion of his college career, Webb accepted an invitation to play in the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Tale Of The Tape
Webb is a developmental talent who offers baseline traits for trench play at the pro level. He steadily built up his frame after being an undersized talent with weight and mass questions during his time at Georgia.
He’s checked in during this offseason circuit at 310 lbs or higher multiple times, which should give some comfort to the stability of this much mass as a playing weight.
That said, his punch radius can sometimes compromise him, and he can still struggle with applied force as a blocker. Due to his modest reach and length, Webb can sometimes eat the brunt of stun punches from opposing players. These reps can cause him to collapse or bubble, particularly when playing in protection, and he is not able to fire out of the blocks to use some of his initial quickness to help play on the right side of the line of scrimmage.
As a pass protector, life was different for Webb at Jacksonville State than what he’ll endure at the pro level, but he did showcase some promising glimpses of solo assignment execution at the Senior Bowl.
However, as a potential center, how primed is Webb to call protections and see the full picture of the front? There were times on film when he was a touch late reacting to games inside, which compromised his edges and his ability to pass off rushers successfully.
These are the kinds of blanks that teams will need to be comfortable filling in without much proof of concept unless they intend to keep him at guard.
As a run blocker, Webb shows good leg drive and effective initial pop and power. He has a more translatable skill set working the point of attack and playing forward. He is a plus athlete with good testing but gets reckless in the open field and fails to come to balance in a manner that allows him to fully optimize his opportunities to secure blocks.
He’s further guilty of having his reps deteriorate over time due to rising pads while trying to maintain his fit beyond the initial pop and punch.
But Webb's wrestling background and center of gravity give him a good initial pad level out the blocks, good punch power, and effective foot speed to parlay initial contact into an effective displacement or seal.
Ideal Scheme Fit, Role
Webb’s athleticism projects best as a zone-oriented blocker on the interior. The plus movement skills could best be optimized as a center where he won’t have his anchor so frequently challenged by power and defenders capping him immediately on the line of scrimmage.
This is a potential starter, but his readiness after gathering his playing time at a lower level and a possible position change should temper immediate expectations.
