Ozzy Trapilo 2025 NFL Draft: Scouting Report For Boston College Eagles OT
Height: 6075 (verified)
Weight: 321 (verified)
Year: Redshirt Senior
Pro Comparison: Anthony Castonzo
Scouting Overview
Boston College Eagles offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo projects as an NFL starter at right tackle. Trapilo's smooth feet and massive gravitational pull in pass protection make him a challenging blocker to disrupt and work around with pure rushes off the edge.
Trapilo played in a gap-heavy run scheme at Boston College but has the makings of a zone-blocking scheme monster with his size, power, athleticism, and displacement ability. Many of his successful run reps are on account of a second gear with leg drive once engaged, but if he can manufacture more urgency through contact, he could be a nightmare while exploding off the line of scrimmage.
This is a three-year starter who has logged snaps on either side of the line of scrimmage, but his play at right tackle has yielded his best work, and his combination of displacement ability/potential and refined pass sets make him a high-floor, high-ceiling proposition in this year’s class.
2025 NFL Combine Results
TBD
Positives
- Offers an overwhelming frame that can engulf opposing defenders at the point of attack
- Very smooth in pass protection and offers light feet and excellent balance
- Flashes of mauling power can create displacement with solo blocks with both linear releases or angled blocks
Negatives
- Can be more aggressive out the blocks on zone schemes to create more initial surge
- Pad level and leverage will always be a battle, given his frame
- Is guilty at times of not seeing the full picture with pass protection surfaces and can allow penetration when attempting to pass off or catch games & exchanges
Background
Trapilo is originally from Norwell, MA, and played high school football for Boston College HS. He is the son of the late NFL offensive lineman Steve Trapilo. At Boston College HS, Trapilo was a coveted 4-star recruit who garnered interest from Ivy League programs and a number of NFL offensive line pipeline programs, such as Michigan, Northwestern, and Nebraska. He chose to stay home and play for Boston College.
Trapilo redshirted in 2020 before playing in 10 games (2 starts) as a redshirt freshman in 2021. He split time between left and right guard. By 2022, Trapilo was in the starting lineup as a left tackle. He started 10 games that season while missing two for injury. His final two seasons of eligibility saw him switch to the right side; Trapilo started every game and was awarded Second Team All-ACC in 2023 and First Team All-ACC in 2024 for his play.
Trapilo accepted an invitation to play in the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl to kickstart his NFL Draft cycle.
Tale Of The Tape
Trapilo projects as a supersized, scheme-diverse talent while boasting positional versatility as an NFL tackle prospect. It is easy to appreciate how fluid he is for a player of his stature. Trapilo is light-footed, fluid, and smooth in his vertical pass sets. He is typically undeterred by speed, thanks in large part to the gravitational pull his frame affords him on the edge. Trapilo possesses NFL tackle feet and sufficient length, plus the grip strength to latch and sustain blocks.
Trapilo does not have elite strike power despite his stature and actual strength. This looms as an improvement opportunity to allow him to offset more of an upfield charge from pass rushers before they can press into his contact window and threaten to work across his face or create confusion for gap leverage.
Trapilo’s pressure trends in 2024 were rooted to late or soft hands with his stun punch or a failure to recognize blitz or pressure schemes intended to layer pressure in waves. Trapilo’s hands can, at times, get him in trouble by allowing compact rushers to play up and through the ground into his high-cut frame and can roll his shoulders back and create a collapse of the pocket.
Finesse rushers around the edge will have fits with him, though. Trapilo is highly smooth with his kick slide and does a wonderful job of mirroring and redirecting when players fail to create disruption in his set before looking to duck and run the corner or alternatively work back up and inside. Once Trapilo sets the hook and secures his hands, he is capable of engulfing rushers and neutralizing their presence in the play.
In the run game, Trapilo is a build-up mover when blocking on angles and a forceful and violent people mover when firing off the line of scrimmage. He’s more prone to working angles and allowing defenders to flow into his real estate when climbing to the second level, but he’s got such a large area of influence that he’s successful in catching and latching defenders to secure a seal of backside pursuit.
He’s athletic enough to work down the line of scrimmage, but despite his frame, he doesn’t boast elite length, which could pose some challenges in consistently setting his hands as a backside cut-off defender. He’ll be punching down at defenders with his frame more often than not.
When he fires off the ball, the gas is easy to find, and he doesn’t need to root long to create momentum. He sustains his push well with active feet and can methodically create wash that opens gouging lanes for his back to run through. Trapilo is a close-quarters heavyweight and can be a monster in combination blocks.
In these combo situations, he shows enough awareness to offer a flipper to help seal based on late changes in the front picture at the snap that remove an authentic double and illustrate the necessary lateral disengagement skills and mobility to set into a gap for fitting linebackers that try to run through depth.
Due to his frame, pad level and leverage will always be an uphill climb. He has the core strength to absorb hands but will get stalemated too often relative to his power potential and can be outreached by longer defenders on the edge.
He is fluid and flexible enough to protect himself with his hinges, but when playing in space, he boasts a big strike zone for opponents to try to catch him off balance or slacking with his posture.
Ideal Scheme Fit, Role
Trapilo is a scheme-diverse offensive tackle who boasts the necessary pass protection skills to play effectively in any passing-focused offense. He illustrates the functional athleticism to be an impactful space creator in zone schemes or gap schemes and has the right blend of size and athleticism to stay sticky on defenders while driving his feet to sustain movement.
Trapilo should be in contention to start quickly at the NFL level, provided he can resolve some of his exchange lapses in pass protection against stunts and pressures.
