Panthers Rookie QB Matt Corral 'Possibly' Out for Season
Carolina Panthers third-round pick quarterback Matt Corral is confirmed to have a Lisfranc injury in his left foot, according to head coach Matt Rhule and reported by ESPN's David Newton.
This is possibly a season-ending injury, according to The 33rd Team's own Dr. Jess Flynn M.D..
This is just a rough day. #Panthers QB Matt Corral suffered a high ankle sprain in Ole Miss’s bowl game that kept him out of the Combine. Now his rookie season is possibly over before it started with a Lisfranc joint injury. https://t.co/TPWlRVldTE

Lisfranc injuries occur when the bones in the middle of the foot are broken and/or the ligaments in the area become torn. In 2021, Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Travis Etienne missed the entire regular season with the same injury.
Corral had made some good plays in the Panthers’ Preseason Week 2 game against the New England Patriots, going 9/15 for 58 yards. He was drafted with the 94th overall pick as the fourth overall quarterback off the board. The team traded a 2023 third-round pick and a 2022 4th-round pick to the Patriots to make the selection.
The Panthers are in the midst of a quarterback battle between offseason acquisition Baker Mayfield and last year's offseason acquisition Sam Darnold. Last season, amid disappointing QB play, the team went 5-12 with the second overall defense, allowing just 305.9 yards per game. Rhule is entering his third season with the team with a 10-23 record.
