Rams Keep Top Spot in 33rd Team's Big Play Index, With Buccaneers Close Behind
The 33rd Team introduced the Big Play Index to show how NFL teams stack up in terms of big plays produced and big plays allowed. Through five weeks of the 2020 season, the Los Angeles Rams have the best Big Play differential at plus-12.
We are defining a Big Play as a run of 15-plus yards and/or a pass of 20-plus yards. Here are three Week 7 matchups that could be impacted by contrasting Big Play differentials:
Seahawks at Cardinals: Despite their 5-0 record, the Seahawks have allowed as many big plays as they've made for a differential of 0. Following Monday's big win in Dallas, Arizona is tied for third on the Big Play Index at plus-9.
Panthers at Saints: Both teams have three wins this season, but they're far apart in Big Play differential. Carolina is at plus-6; New Orleans is at minus-4.
Bears at Rams: While the Rams have the best Big Play differential, The Bears at minus-7 have the worst differential of any team with a winning record. In fact, while the Bears are 5-1, the only four teams that have a worse Big Play differential are Jacksonville, Washington, Cincinnati and the Jets (combined three wins).
