Ravens-Jets Takeaways: Lamar, Ravens Defense 'Exceptional'

Lamar Jackson

Editor's note: The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Jets, 24-9, on Sunday. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was 17-of-30 for 213 yards, 3 TDs and an interception, but it was a dominating performance from Baltimore's defense that stole the show, with three sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Mike Tannenbaum, who called the game for ESPN Radio, provided his four takeaways:

Pocket Play Impressive from Jackson

Offensively, Lamar Jackson was really poised and comfortable in the pocket. His downfield accuracy was really good. He hit tight end Mark Andrews (5 catches, 52 yards). They had a big pass-interference called. I think they're gonna be really hard to defend, especially when J.K. Dobbins comes back. Jackson looked exceptional today. I thought how he played from the pocket was really, really good.

Ravens' Defense Was in Control

Defensively, the Ravens' front controlled the game. The Jets' offensive line was terrible, but the Ravens also looked really good. That was the story of the game. Edge rusher Justin Houston was really productive. They got Marcus Williams from New Orleans. He grabbed an easy interception. He's a really good tackler and made some plays for them.

Jets Flashed Defensively

The Jets were good against the run, especially early. It was flashes. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams played especially well. Kwon Alexander made a few plays for them. Jordan Whitehead had a great pass breakup. It was in flashes, but then they would be on their heels ... and, the Ravens are a tough team to defend."

Flacco Not the Issue

Given what he had to work with, Joe Flacco did OK. He had to work in a terrible pocket, but he didn't play poorly. Wide receiver Corey Davis made some tough contested catches.
