TE Foster Moreau Gets Cancer Diagnosis on Free Agency Visit with Saints

tight end Foster Moreau

Free agent tight end Foster Moreau, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Raiders, will step away from football to battle Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The cancer was discovered during a physical with the New Orleans Saints, Moreau announced on social media Wednesday night. He said he will take time away from the field to fight it, with the intention of making a full recovery and returning to the NFL.

"Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me," Moreau wrote on Twitter. "During a routine physical conducted by the Saint's medical team down in New Orleans, I've come to learn that I have Hodgkin's Lymphoma and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I'm grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me. There hasn't been a single step I've taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me and I will continue to seek their guidance."

A free agent for the first time, Moreau caught a career-high 33 passes for 420 yards in 2022. He will turn 26 in May, leaving time for a potential return.
