Titans Agree to 4-Year, $94M Deal With DT Jeffery Simmons

The Tennessee Titans are keeping one of their best players happy. The Titans and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons agreed to a four-year, $94 million deal with $66 million guaranteed on Friday, ESPN reported. Simmons responded positively to the news on Twitter.

Simmons' extension will start in 2024, as he will play the 2023 season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract for $10.75 million. This helps the Titans keep this year's cap low, which is needed since they have just more than $6 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.

The 26-year-old has developed into one of the NFL's premier interior defenders since being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Simmons was elected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons and recorded a combined 16 sacks and 21 tackles for loss during that span.

Tennessee's roster has undergone a small renovation this offseason. New general manager Ran Carthon moved on from veterans like Taylor LewanBen JonesBud DupreeZach Cunningham and Robert Woods. There also have been reports the team was interested in trading QB Ryan Tannehill this offseason.

The Titans are coming off a disappointing season that saw them start 6-3 before losing seven straight games to end the season. The losing streak culminated in a loss to the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars, keeping the Titans from making the playoffs.
