Titans Fire Head Coach Mike Vrabel
The Tennessee Titans have fired coach Mike Vrabel after six seasons with the organization.
Vrabel led the Titans to winning records in his first four seasons, along with three playoff appearances. The last two years, his teams have gone a combined 13-21 and missed the playoffs both seasons. He was the NFL's Coach of the Year after leading Tennessee to the No. 1 seed in 2021 despite a ridiculous number of injuries.
"As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff," owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement.
The Titans moved on from GM Jon Robinson last year, in part because of his relationship with Vrabel and the aftermath of trading A.J. Brown. Vrabel had wanted Ryan Cowden to take over as general manager, but the team hired Ran Carthon from San Francisco. While Carthon and Vrabel had a good relationship, ownership felt it was time for a new start.
There has been a growing belief Vrabel could be a top candidate if the New England Patriots move on from Bill Belichick. Vrabel was inducted into the Patriots Ring of Honor this season and sat in a suite with owner Robert Kraft.
Tennessee is now the fifth team with a head coach opening, joining the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers.
