Trevor Etienne 2025 NFL Draft: Scouting Report For Georgia Bulldogs RB

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne (1) breaks away for a big gain during the second half of the SEC championship game against Texas in Atlanta.

Height: 5090 (unofficial)

Weight: 202lbs (unofficial)

Year: Junior

Pro Comparison: Myles Gaskin

Scouting Overview

Georgia Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne is an instinctive runner who has the chance to serve as a rotational back in a zone-heavy rushing scheme. Etienne offers good vision, quickness, and running leverage to run tougher than his size would have you expect.

He’s not necessarily a well-developed player in every phase yet, as he leaves the college game with just barely more than 1,000 career offensive snaps. He’s caught all but one career target across three seasons (62 receptions on 63 targets), but his efficiency there is aided by some vanilla pass game usage.

In all, Etienne is a likable player who is still searching for his distinguishing characteristics as a player.

2025 NFL Combine Results

TBD

Positives

  • Offers a healthy blend of requisite qualities — he’s a well-balanced player from an athletic profile
  • Good vision and processing ability to feel space and optimize carry opportunities
  • Has illustrated natural hands as a pass catcher with only one drop in 63 career targets

Negatives

  • Processing in scan protections can leave him late to close angles at set up for pressure assignments
  • Durability is largely unproven after rib injury in 2024 and three seasons without more than 130 carries
  • Was arrested for DUI and reckless driving in March of 2024

Background

Etienne is from Jennings, LA, and played high school football for Jennings HS. He is the younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne. At Jennings, Etienne was a productive player and ranked as a 4-star recruit (247 Sports). He enrolled at the University of Florida over offers from schools like Alabama and Clemson — the latter being where his brother played in college.

As a true freshman in 2022, Etienne played in 13 games for the Gators and was named to the 2022 All-Freshman Team for the SEC. He averaged more than six yards a carry and posted six touchdowns. In 2023, Etienne played in 11 contests and set career-best marks in carries (131) and rushing yards (753). He entered the transfer portal after his sophomore season as a 4-star transfer, committing to the Georgia Bulldogs.

In the spring of 2024, Etienne was arrested for a DUI and reckless driving charge. He would go on to play in 10 games of his junior season with the Bulldogs, missing time with a rib injury that cost him multiple games. After the season, he declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, bypassing his final year of college eligibility.

Tale Of The Tape

Etienne is a smooth operator whose center of gravity as a runner is aided by being compact and low to the ground. He isn’t a “small” back by any means, but his cuts offer the right kind of darting ability to jitterbug through a crease and then parlay another missed tackle challenge on the second level.

Etienne doesn’t have the kind of explosiveness that his brother possesses — but he’s been primarily an effective runner out of multiple zone-heavy rushing offenses and showcases short-area agility and suddenness required to manipulate the point of attack. When he can press into the second level with speed, he becomes a slashing runner who can gouge defenses for chunks.

He does not appear to have the kind of second gear or ability to open his stride that would allow him to tear apart angles on the second level, though. He’s fast enough, and open-air runs should have a little issue getting converted for big gains, but he just appears to be missing that pop that would allow him to have breakaway ability against 50/50 angles.

Against muddy looks and clogged gaps, Etienne appears to offer modest ability to defeat defenders in the backfield. He was generally not a successful runner against heavy box counts the last two years, and he lacks the raw power to push piles and stress head-up tacklers in close quarters. His ability to attack defenders is more dependent on getting up a head of steam and then choosing to run through a defender.

In the passing game, Etienne has had an incredible run converting his target opportunities. He dropped one pass this season — and it’s the only target that he didn’t catch in three seasons. He has good hands and has shown the ability to catch the ball from a number of angles, be that sitting overtop of the ball, running screens, or taking swing routes and late checkdowns horizontally into the flat.

His pass game usage hasn’t been particularly diverse, and if he’s going to be a weapon in this regard at the pro level, you’d love to see him build out his routes to be a more accountable threat within the defense’s game plan each week.

In pass protection, Etienne appears to have a solid foundation of attitude and willingness to hit. There are times when his processing and diagnosis of the front and who is responsible for the threat need to be quickened, but this is a player who only took 99 pass protection reps in three seasons.

Some of this is just necessary growth and maturation. Given that Etienne is a young player who won’t turn 21 until July, he should be viewed as a potential growth candidate as he assembles more reps.

Ideal Scheme Fit, Role

Etienne projects as a zone-scheme-focused rotational player. He’s got the quick feet, running leverage, and vision to set up successful presses to the line of scrimmage.

However, his ability to create dynamic yardage and plays for himself is something of a question, as is his ceiling in the passing game despite reliable hands.
