Week 5 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings

The 33rd Team's weekly QB rankings are a snapshot of where the league's 32 current starters are right now, taking into account the player's recent production, his supporting cast, his health, and an evaluation by our scouting department, led by former NFL team executive T.J. McCreight and assisted by scouts Justin Casey, Kevin Cohn and Evan Pritt.

1.  Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Record: 3-1 | QB Rating: 108.4 (2nd Overall) | Prev. Rank: 2

Next Three Games: vs. Los Vegas Raiders, vs. Buffalo Bills, at San Francisco 49ers

Comment: Mahomes makes the jump to the top spot with the dismantling of one of the top defenses in the league.

2.  Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Record: 3-1 | QB Rating: 101.0 (7th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 1

Next Three Games: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, at Kansas Chiefs, vs. Green Bay Packers

Comment: Allen once again showed how he can overcome bad weather with overwhelming physical ability. He only dropped from the top spot due to Mahomes’ spectacular performance at Tampa.

3.  Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Record: 4-0 | QB Rating: 99.6 (10th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 4

Next Three Games: at Arizona Cardinals, vs. Dallas Cowboys, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Comment: He overcame a rough start and bad weather to keep his team the lone undefeated one in the NFL.

4.  Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 105.1 (5th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 3

Next Three Games: vs. Cincinnati Bengals, at New York Giants, vs. Cleveland Browns

Comment: He continues to do Lamar things, but he could not overcome the weather or Josh Allen.

5.  Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 97.7 (11th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 7

Next Three Games: vs. Atlanta Falcons, at Pittsburgh Steelers, at Carolina Panthers

Comment: He couldn’t match Mahomes, but he looks a lot more comfortable with the return of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

6.  Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 102.2 (6th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 9

Next Three Games: at Cleveland Browns, vs. Denver Broncos, vs. Seattle Seahawks

Comment: His play has alleviated some of the concerns about his rib injury. He leads the league in passing yards despite the injury and the absence of Keenan Allen. Also, he has at least one "wow throw" every week.

7.  Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 91.3 (15th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 10

Next Three Games: at Baltimore Ravens, at New Orleans Saints, vs. Atlanta Falcons

Comment: He appears unfazed by his early-season struggles and played with confidence and decisiveness on Thursday night.

8. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Record: 3-1 | QB Rating: 95.6 (13th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 6

Next Three Games: vs. New York Giants, vs. New York Jets, at Washington Commanders

Comment: You can’t be taken to overtime by Bailey Zappe if you are Aaron Rodgers. Even he admits that he has to play better.

9. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Record: 2-1 | QB Rating: 86.3 (19th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 11

Next Three Games: vs. Dallas Cowboys, vs. Carolina Panthers, vs. San Francisco 49ers

Comment: His offensive line is in shambles and no one has emerged outside of Cooper Kupp. He may be living off of last season’s Super Bowl run, but who else from 11-32 on this list deserves to be labeled a top 10 QB in the NFL right now?

10. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 99.9 (T-8th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 5

Next Three Games: at Indianapolis Colts, vs. New York Giants, vs. Denver Broncos

Comment: You can’t be a top-5 QB and turn the ball over five times regardless of the weather conditions.

11. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Record: 1-3 | QB Rating: 99.9 (T-8th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 12

Next Three Games: at New England Patriots, at Dallas Cowboys, vs. Miami Dolphins

Comment: He continues to churn out points and yards, but the defense keeps letting them down. You should never score 45 points and lose.

12. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Record: 3-1 | QB Rating: 84.1 (22nd Overall) | Prev. Rank: 13

Next Three Games: vs. Chicago Bears, at Miami Dolphins, vs. Arizona Cardinals

Comment: His numbers usually look good on paper, but the video leaves you expecting more.

13. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 85.2 (20th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 14

Next Three Games: vs. Philadelphia Eagles, at Seattle Seahawks, vs. New Orleans Saints

Comment: The offense still looks disjointed, but Murray is starting to get on the same page with Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.

14. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Record: 1-3 | QB Rating: 83.2 (23rd Overall) | Prev. Rank: 15

Next Three Games: at Kansas City Chiefs, vs. Houston Texans, at New Orleans Saints

Comment: He did a nice job managing the game and even made some plays with his legs. He has the ability to be more than just a game manager.

[bc_video video_id="6313168288112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

15. Cooper Rush, Dallas Cowboys

Record: 3-0 | QB Rating: 95.9 (12th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 18

Next Three Games: at Los Angeles Rams, at Philadelphia Eagles, vs. Detroit Lions

Comment: All he does is win. He is proving to be the ultimate game manager and season-saver for the Cowboys.

16. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 108.0 (3rd Overall) | Prev. Rank: 23

Next Three Games: at New Orleans Saints, vs. Arizona Cardinals, at Los Angeles Chargers

Comment: No one is more shocked by this move than us. Who would have thought that a quarter of a way through the season, Geno Smith would be outplaying Russell Wilson?

17. Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 91.1 (16th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 17

Next Three Games: vs. Indianapolis Colts, at Los Angeles Chargers, vs. New York Jets

Comment: He showed some signs of his old self, but needs to play with more consistency.

[bc_video video_id="6313263217112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

18. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers

Record: 1-1 | QB Rating: 89.2 (17th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 20

Next Three Games: at Carolina Panthers, at Atlanta Falcons, vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Comment: When Jimmy G plays, the 49ers win a lot more than they lose. The same can’t be said when anyone else plays for them.

19. Jacoby Brissett, Cleveland Browns

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 87.1 (18th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 16

Next Three Games: vs. Los Angeles Chargers, vs. New England Patriots, at Baltimore Ravens

Comment: For the second time this year, he threw an interception to end the Browns’ chances of winning.

20. Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 93.8 (14th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 22

Next Three Games: at Washington Commanders, vs. Indianapolis Colts, at Houston Texans

Comment: He benefits from lots of play-action off of Derrick Henry, and he’s starting to find Robert Woods.

21. Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders

Record: 1-3 | QB Rating: 82.3 (24th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 19

Next Three Games: vs. Tennessee Titans, at Chicago Bears, vs. Green Bay Packers

Comment: He keeps proving to everyone he is no longer the QB that lead the Eagles to a 13-3 season. When will the Commanders realize that?

22. Matt Ryan, Indianapolis Colts

Record: 1-2-1 | QB Rating: 85.0 (21st Overall) | Prev. Rank: 21

Next Three Games: at Denver Broncos, vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, at Tennessee Titans

Comment: There are glimpses of the younger Ryan, but without excellent protection, he looks like a clumsy, cement-footed version the rest of the time.

[bc_video video_id="6313077414112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

23. Teddy Bridgewater, Miami Dolphins

Record: 0-0 | QB Rating: 77.6 (26th Overall) | Prev. Rank: NR

Next Three Games: at New York Jets, vs. Minnesota Vikings, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Comment: Bridgewater is a good fit to run coach Mike McDaniel’s offense, but if there were questions about Tua Tagovailoa’s arm, wait until you see Bridgewater’s.

24. Andy Dalton, New Orleans Saints

Record: 0-1 | QB Rating: 108.6 (1st Overall) | Prev. Rank: 26

Next Three Games: vs. Seattle Seahawks, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, at Arizona Cardinals

Comment: Dalton played well considering the absence of some key play-makers and the obstacle of getting ready while traveling to London. If Jameis Winston is unable to go again, Dalton gives them a chance to win against Seattle.

25. Davis Mills, Houston Texans

Record: 0-3-1 | QB Rating: 80.4 (25th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 27

Next Three Games: at Jacksonville Jaguars, at Los Vegas Raiders, vs. Tennessee Titans

Comment: The franchise is desperate for some excitement, and Mills is not the guy to bring it.

[bc_video video_id="6313207933112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

26. Zach Wilson, New York Jets

Record: 1-0 | QB Rating: 59.0 (30th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 32

Next Three Games: vs. Miami Dolphins, at Green Bay Packers, at Denver Broncos

Comment: He is one of the big movers this week after a 10-point fourth-quarter comeback victory in his first action of the season.

27. Baker Mayfield, Carolina Panthers

Record: 1-3 | QB Rating: 75.0 (28th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 25

Next Three Games: vs. San Francisco 49ers, at Los Angeles Rams, vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Comment: If not for Sam Darnold’s injury, Mayfield might be holding the clipboard this week after that performance.

28. Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 76.9 (27th Overall) | Prev. Rank: 28

Next Three Games: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, vs. San Francisco 49ers, at Cinncinati Bengals

Comment: The Falcons ran the ball 14 straight times after he threw a third-quarter interception. On the 15th play, he let a shotgun snap go right through his hands.

[bc_video video_id="6313265785112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

29. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: 0-0 | QB Rating: 65.1 (29th Overall) | Prev. Rank: NR

Next Three Games: at Buffalo Bills, vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at Miami Dolphins

Comment: He's now the team's permanent starter. The good news is: he didn’t have a throw hit the ground. The bad news: three of those were to the other team.

[bc_video video_id="6313208811112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

30. Bailey Zappe, New England Patriots

Record: 0-0 | QB Rating: 107.4 (4th Overall) | Prev. Rank: NR

Next Three Games: vs. Detroit Lions, at Cleveland Browns, vs. Chicago Bears

Comment: He made a couple of nice throws and did enough to keep his team in the game but these were tough circumstances for a player getting his first taste of regular season action.

31. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

Record: 2-2 | QB Rating: 58.7 (31st Overall) | Prev. Rank: 30

Next Three Games: at Minnesota Vikings, vs. Washington Commanders, at New England Patriots

Comment: He would be No. 32 if not for the Giants’ injuries at QB.

[bc_video video_id="6313168283112" account_id="6312875271001" player_id="default" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" playsinline="playsinline" picture_in_picture="" language_detection="" max_width="640px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" aspect_ratio="16:9" sizing="responsive" ]

32. Davis Webb, New York Giants

Record: 0-0 | QB Rating: N/A | Prev. Rank: NR

Next Three Games: at Green Bay Packers, vs. Baltimore Ravens, at Jacksonville Jaguars

Comment: If either Daniel Jones or Tyrod Taylor were healthy, they would be higher, but we have no idea who will be playing QB this week for the Giants. Odds are on Davis Webb, who is on their practice squad and has been with the team off and on for several seasons.

*QB rating rankings are of the anticipated starters for this week, not the entire NFL.
