What Will Ravens Do With First-Round Pick Acquired for Orlando Brown?
The Kansas City Chiefs had one clear mission after their 31-9 beating at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV: Fix the offensive line. They had already started the O-line makeover with a few offseason signings, but the big move came Friday with the acquisition of Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown from the Baltimore Ravens.
The Chiefs traded their first-round pick (No. 31 overall), a third-rounder (94), fourth-round pick (136) and a 2022 fifth-round selection in exchange for Brown and a 2021 second-round pick (No. 58) and a 2022 sixth-round pick.
The Chiefs had already addressed the guard position by signing free-agent Joe Thuney and coaxing former Bear Kyle Long out of a brief retirement. They also signed center Austin Blythe. But the tackle position was wide open after releasing veterans Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, both of whom were injured at the end of last season.
Of course, now the question on everyone’s mind is: How does the trade affect the 33rd Team’s First-Round Simulation?
Earlier this week, we posted our analytics-based first-round simulation. We had the Chiefs drafting Michigan OT Jalen Mayfield with the 31st overall pick. Now that pick belongs to Baltimore.
Even before trading Brown, offensive tackle was considered an area of need for Baltimore – and so the draft simulation had the Ravens taking Oklahoma State OT Teven Jenkins with the 27th pick. That pick makes even more sense now.
After running another round of simulations accounting for the trade, here’s who we now project the Ravens to take with their second first-round pick, No. 31:

One more switch: The original simulation had the Buccaneers taking Texas OT Samuel Cosmi with the 32nd pick, but that was after we had Kansas City taking Mayfield at 31. With the Chiefs no longer in that spot, the new simulation has the Bucs making Mayfield the last pick of the first round.
